In
order to provide anti-aircraft base defence when mobile
units (such as Flyswatter and SAM-Crawler) are forward
deployed, the IDC has invested heavily in the new
Guardian CIWS. The system uses both cannon and light
missiles to engage aircraft, missiles and other flying
units at medium/close range. The Dagger missiles have a
range of approximately twice that of the cannon and no
altitude limits. This ensures that the IDC can engage all
air targets to some extent. To balance this advanced capability, the missile's failure-rate increases with altitude of the target. Typical bases will have 3-5 Guardian towers covering the immediate approaches as well as the airspace over the base. The Guardian has no capability against ground targets because of it cannon's depression limits (0°). A simpler cannon only turret is mounted on some buildings. AbsCnC Model (author: haydn) |
